Kensington Primary School

World Book Week

What an enjoyable week it's been at Kensington Primary School.

We have celebrated reading through a variety of activities including:

  • Book Swaps — Children were encouraged to bring in books from home to swap with other children's books. Over a hundred books were swapped during the course of the week.
  • Loud Learning Story Writing Workshop — Every child in the school had the opportunity to work with an external practitioner to create and perform a chapter for an imaginative story. These were very exciting workshops and the children and teachers thoroughly enjoyed it.
  • Readathon — 63 children took part overall, reading a massive 262 books and raising  £360 to reinvest back into our library. Every child that took part will be awarded certificates for participation.
  • Buddy Reading — This wonderful whole school activity ensured that every child was paired with a child from a different year group. The engagement, the interest in books, the love for reading and reading skills showcased was incredible to see and overall, it was a huge success.
  • Competitions — four competitions were run during the week, including: story writing, writing a description, drawing and imagining a chocolate and the golden ticket hunt. 205 children took part in the competitions. Finalists have been chosen and will be awarded prizes.
  • Dress up — our World Book Day theme was based on the very famous book, 'Charlie and The Chocolate Factory'. The children and adults all looked fantastic in all their creative outfits.
  • Storytelling workshops- we were lucky to be joined by an old member of staff, Elaine Brewood, who came back to do small storytelling sessions with the school, and KS1. These were thoroughly engaging and left an impact on the children.
  • Finally, we set up Kensington's very own Chocolate Factory in the Main Hall. Children and parents alike got to witness and be a part of an enjoyable event and buy wonderful treats such as: candy floss, sweet popcorn, sweets and of course the wonderful goodies dipped in the chocolate fountain.

Well done to everyone for making this week a huge success. We hope that this leaves a long term impact upon children's engagement and interest with learning in school, and we continue on our path to make reading inspiring for everyone.

There are lots more of photos on the website so do go and have a look.
