Parents Queries 01/02/2019

You asked: What are we doing as a whole school approach to improve reading?

We answered: Guided Reading at Kensington

At Kensington, we teach guided reading every day in order to help our children develop their reading skills. We use exciting and challenging levelled texts to help us do this.

The reading skills are a key focus so our children learn not only how to read but also to understand and comprehend what they are reading.

Throughout the week the children will have five different activities surrounding one particular reading skill. Each class focuses on one reading skill for two weeks by which time your child should be confident in that particular skill.

Throughout the year your child will build upon these skills and gain more confidence in using the reading skills to help them understand and more importantly enjoy what they have read!

If you would like any more information on the reading skills do not hesitate to ask your child’s class teacher or Miss Brooker (English leader).
