Learning in Year 4B

The past few weeks have been filled with lots of amazing learning in Year 4! After the busyness of Autumn 1 it has been lovely to see the children become more comfortable and confident in their new environment.
In English we have been reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl, and we have almost finished the whole book. The world of Willy Wonka is enchanting and immersive and we have even invented our own revolutionary chocolate bar filled with magical ingredients! Now, we are in the process of putting our new knowledge of subordinate clauses and persuasive language to work as we develop an advertisement to convince everyone to buy our chocolate.
In maths we have been practicing fluency nearly every day to make sure we have the basics down. We have shown massive progress in our times tables especially, and it is only going to get better! This fluency helped us learn about column subtraction with exchanges and will support us with our next unit on factors and column multiplication.
In science we have been exploring food, learning about food groups and researching how much sugar is in different foods. We have also investigated how this affects our body, and next week we will conduct an experiment on how different liquids (beverages) can affect eggs, representing bones!
The children have also enjoyed learning about sound and different types of music, audio recording software that has allowed us to plan and create our own podcasts, building sequences in gymnastics, and building understanding of different dietary practices across religions.
Lastly, we have finally begun practice for our Spring performance of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We will spend the next weeks learning songs, memorising the script, and building sets.
We are all very proud of the progress we’ve made this Autumn and can’t wait to see what comes next!
