Reception have hit the ground running this spring term!

The children have settled beautifully into school routines, and we are incredibly proud of the way they listen so carefully, share with their friends and approach new challenges with growing confidence.

This half term our theme is Once Upon a Time, and The Three Little Pigs has been a firm favourite. The children have loved retelling the story using puppets and real straw and bricks, bringing the tale to life through imaginative play. They have created striking collage masks of the characters and written words and simple sentences to describe them.

We’ve also been busy exploring like scientists. After making predictions, the children tested what happens when we huff and puff straw themselves — which left us very out of breath, with plenty of tidying up to do, but lots of excitement and laughter along the way! Next week, we’ll be investigating what happens with sticks.

In maths, learning is active and practical. The children are developing their counting skills by counting objects, movements and even each other, while also learning to recognise, order and write numbers. They are beginning to compare amounts using mathematical language such as greater and fewer, and will soon be exploring number patterns, including doubles, odds and evens, through hands-on play.

It has been a joyful, busy start to the term, full of curiosity, creativity and growing independence — and we can’t wait to see where our learning takes us next.
