Year 6 Update – A Great Term of Learning

This term has been full of exciting learning for our Year 6 pupils. The children have worked very hard and have shown great enthusiasm in their lessons.
In English, pupils have really enjoyed reading and writing activities based on Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. The story has captured their imagination and inspired some fantastic work. One of the highlights for the class was their recent writing piece, where they created a commentary of a Quidditch match. The children had great fun describing the action and excitement of the game. During their writing lessons, pupils have also been learning to use different types of sentences to make their writing more interesting and effective. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they try new ideas in their writing.
Another exciting area of learning this term has been science. The children learned about different types of germs and how mould can grow. As part of this learning, they carried out an experiment with bread to observe how mould develops over time. The pupils recorded what they saw over the few days and discussed the changes they noticed.
The class also carried out a very engaging activity using ultraviolet light to detect germs. A special powder was used that cannot be seen by the human eye but becomes visible under UV light. This helped the children see how easily germs can spread from one place to another. Through this experiment, they learned how germs travel and why good hygiene and proper hand washing are so important.
We are very proud of the effort Year 6 pupils have shown this term. Despite the focus on preparing for Key Stage 2 SATs, the children have remained positive, engaged and enthusiastic in their learning. They have continued to show curiosity, resilience and a strong attitude towards their work, and we look forward to seeing them continue to progress in the coming weeks.
