Whole School Science Update
What We’ve Been Learning This Week
It’s been a fantastic start to Science across the school this week, with all year groups diving into hands-on learning and exciting new topics. Here’s a quick look at what everyone has been exploring so far:
Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
Our youngest learners have begun exploring planting and growing. This week, they planted beans and will also be planting sunflower seeds. They have talked about what plants need to grow. They are excited to watch their seeds change over time!
Year 1
Year 1 have started investigating how plants grow in different conditions. This week, they planted seeds and began comparing how plants grow with and without sunlight, making predictions about what might happen.
Year 2
Year 2 have been learning about the basic needs of plants. They will plant seeds and started thinking about what plants need to survive, such as water and light, and are beginning to observe early changes.
Year 3
Year 3 have started their topic on animals, focusing on their nutritional and hydration needs. This week, they discussed what animals eat and why water is essential for keeping living things healthy.
Year 4
Year 4 have been introduced to the water cycle. They have begun learning about key processes like evaporation and condensation and are starting to understand how water moves around the Earth.
Year 5
Year 5 have launched their topic on forces. This week, they were introduced to ideas such as gravity, air resistance, upthrust, and buoyancy, and began discussing how these forces affect objects in everyday life.
It’s been wonderful to see such a positive start to Science this week. We’re looking forward to seeing how the children’s ideas and investigations develop over the coming weeks!
Keep up the great scientific thinking!
