Learning in Year 6

Our Year 6 students have truly stepped up a gear this term, displaying a level of dedication to their studies that is inspiring to see. As they navigate the final stages of revision for their upcoming exams, the atmosphere in the classrooms has been one of intense focus tempered by a great deal of mutual support. We are seeing remarkable progress every single day, with the children not only retaining complex information but applying it with newfound confidence and flair.
In Mathematics, the progress in arithmetic has been a particular highlight; the speed and precision with which the students are now tackling mental calculations and long division is a testament to their daily practice. This week, we have turned our attention to the world of geometry, where the children have been working tirelessly to understand the properties of angles. From measuring with accuracy to calculating missing values in complex shapes, their ability to visualize and solve these problems is coming along beautifully.
The standard of work in English has been equally impressive. The cohort has been diving deep into various texts to master the skill of inference, learning to read between the lines and justify their ideas with evidence. We have also seen a deliberate and successful effort to widen their vocabulary, with many students now choosing sophisticated synonyms to add weight to their writing. Furthermore, the class has spent time deconstructing tricky linguistic structures like the passive voice. We are proud to report that they are now officially experts in this area, seamlessly shifting the focus of their sentences to vary the tone and formality of their work.
However, it hasn’t all been about books and pens! We believe a healthy mind requires an active body, and the children certainly proved that during this week's intrasports competition. It was a joy to witness such high levels of energy and teamwork as they enjoyed the thrill of friendly competition. Whether they were winning or cheering from the sidelines, the sense of school spirit was palpable. This physical stamina will certainly be put to the test this weekend, and we want to send a huge "Good Luck" to all the Year 6 children running the mini marathon this Saturday. Your resilience, both in the classroom and on the track, makes us incredibly proud. Keep up the amazing work!
