Learning in reception

Reception have fully embraced our “Let’s Grow” topic this half term, with lots of hands-on learning and curiosity-led exploration. The children have each planted their own beans and have been carefully looking after them, learning what plants need to grow and watching changes over time.

We have also been exploring the world around us through discussions about the water cycle. The children have enjoyed looking up at the clouds, sharing their ideas, and wondering where puddles go after it rains—sparking some fantastic conversations and early scientific thinking.

In literacy, we have been reading Jasper’s Beanstalk, which has helped us learn about the days of the week. The children have been practising putting the days in order and talking about what they do on different days. To bring this learning to life, they created their own “days of the week” caterpillars, which they are very proud of.

It has been a joyful and engaging topic, full of discovery, creativity, and growing understanding.
