Learning in Year 1

This week, our wonderful Year 1 pupils have been taking part in the annual Phonics Screening Check, and they have done an amazing job. The check involves reading a mix of 40 real and fictional "alien words" to see how their decoding skills are progressing. What has shone through brightest is not just the reading itself, but the incredible attitude of the children. They approached every word with determination, focus, and a whole lot of bright smiles, trying their absolute best with every single card. Every child has shown just how much they have grown since the start of the year, demonstrating brilliant resilience. We are incredibly proud of all their hard work and effort. A massive thank you also goes out to our fantastic staff for making the checks so encouraging, and to parents for their continued support with reading at home. Well done to all of our Year 1 superstars, you have done yourselves proud.
