Communication across the school
All across the school, children have been developing their spoken and written communication skills.
Several year groups are working on their parent performances this term, which gives them lots of opportunities to work on their communication skills, particularly performing skills, including singing, dancing, acting and playing instruments. All of these help children to develop their confidence, which will help them in life.
Reception children are creating a medley to showcase all their learning this year, where they will share what they've learned, through song and dance. It is wonderful to see how brilliantly they are learning the songs and dance moves, as well as building up their confidence to perform in front of others.
Year 3's performance showcases what they have learned about the historic Great Fire of London. Amazingly, this performance even includes a piece of music that two of the students wrote themselves! Their teachers have been impressed by how much they learned about this fire from the songs they've learned. Many children even included some of the song lyrics, such as "London's burning, fetch the engines!" in the non-chronological reports they wrote this term. It is brilliant to see how the creativity of developing children's spoken and performing communication skills feeds into their written work, and their lifelong knowledge of a subject.
You can help your child develop confidence and good communication skills by asking them how their day has been at school, what they learned and what they most enjoyed. This gives your child the chance to use new vocabulary they may have picked up that day, as well as any new knowledge they've picked up.
