End of Term Newsletter
18th July 2025
Dear Families,
We are - astonishingly - at the end of another school year. School, like life, is filled with ups and downs, highs and lows. I am sure you have all had your memorable moments this year and I know many of you have faced significant challenges.
We are so proud of everything your children have achieved this year. They have grown and developed and we are honoured to be a small part of that progress. They have learnt to read and write; they've built new friendships; got physically fitter; understood their emotions more; performed, danced, and sung. They've gone on trips to exciting destinations, had overnight stays, summer fairs, sports days, talent shows and much, much more.
As a school, we are always striving to do the best for your children. We hope - and believe - that we get that right the majority of the time. But we are always reflecting and listening so that we cancontinue to improve. Thanks to your feedback, there will be some changes in September. The ones that will most immediately impact you include:
- All staff will be in the playground at 8.40am Monday, Tuesday and Thursday to provide another opportunity for you to speak to them. They will take children up at 8.45am - which is when school begins. (Friday they may be a little later as we have our whole team briefing on a Friday morning.)
- All staff will be in the playground at 8.30am on Wednesday for our Workout Wednesday. We are going to continue developing this based on feedback, to encourage even more families and children to get involved. We appreciate your support of this.
- We are returning to our much-loved food tasting for Parents Evenings. This made it a real community event and we love having you all in the school.
- We want to draw on the skills of you - our community - and so we will be looking for parents to volunteer to run some of the after-school clubs. Thank you to those people who have already shared their details.
- We are reflecting on our Sports Days. We want to make sure they are a wonderful event for the children but also that parents can be fully involved. We are currently reviewing our mixed-gender races, the timings of the day and activities. We are also considering bringing back our family picnic on
Sports Day. More details on all of this will follow nearer the time, but if you have any thoughts, please do share them.
I have to be honest. Next year is the tightest financial year the school has faced - by a distance - since I started 11.5 years ago. We have had to make some big decisions, including most of our senior leaders being in class full-time. We are absolutely committed to ensuring this does not impact your child's experience at school: in fact, I think we have the best set-up we have had for years heading into 25-26. It does mean, however, that we need you to work with us more than ever. Please talk to us if you are concerned, or you feel something is not right. And please bear with us if the response takes slightly longer than previously. We are always open to discussing your perspectives. We may not always agree on everything, but we always agree that your child - their happiness, health and learning - come first.
It only remains for me to wish all of our incredible Y6 the very best as they head off for the excitement and opportunity of secondary school. We will miss you but you are so ready. Don't be strangers.
And to wish all of you a wonderful summer. I hope you have some time off with your family and a chance to rest and recharge. I look forward to seeing you in September.
