Science across the school

It’s been an exciting time in Science across all our year groups! Here’s a snapshot of what everyone has been discovering and exploring this term:

EYFS – Our youngest scientists have been learning all about farm animals – where they live, what they eat, and how we care for them. The children have enjoyed lots of hands-on play and stories to bring their learning to life!

Year 1 – We’ve been exploring materials and their uses, as well as investigating floating and sinking. The children have loved predicting which objects will float and then testing their ideas in the water trays.

Year 2 – This term, we’ve been learning all about ourselves. We’ve explored topics such as asthma, allergies, germs, and oral hygiene, learning how to keep our bodies healthy and strong.

Year 3 – Our focus has been on plants. We’ve been investigating the different parts of a plant, including the roots and other underground parts, and discovering how water travels through them. The children have also been growing cress to observe this process firsthand!

Year 4 – We’ve been learning about the human body, exploring the circulatory system, the digestive system, and now investigating why our skeleton is so important. The children have been amazed by how our bodies work together as one incredible system!

Year 5 – Our young researchers have been looking into healthy and unhealthy eating habits. They’ve been finding out about the risks associated with a poor diet and have each chosen a disease to research, such as diabetes or heart disease.

Year 6 – Budding engineers in Year 6 have been building and exploring electrical circuits. They’ve learned how electricity flows and how to design their own circuits safely and effectively.
