From Systems to Creativity: Exploring Digital Media Across the School

Dear Parents and Carers,
We’ve had a fantastic start to the year with every class successfully completing their Computer Systems units. Pupils have developed a strong understanding of how digital devices work, connect, and communicate — from recognising everyday technology in Year 1 to exploring online communication and collaboration in Year 6.
This half term, our focus moves to the Creative Media strand of the Teach Computing curriculum. This is always an exciting area for pupils, as it gives them the opportunity to express their ideas and imagination through a range of digital tools. Each year group will explore a creative project that builds on their growing computing knowledge and skills.
Here’s what our pupils will be learning this term:
-
Year 1 – Digital Painting: Creating colourful digital artwork using paint tools and exploring the differences between digital and paper-based art.
-
Year 2 – Digital Photography: Capturing and editing photographs while learning about composition and how to improve an image.
-
Year 3 – Stop-frame Animation: Bringing characters and stories to life through sequences of photographs to create short animations.
-
Year 4 – Audio Production: Recording, editing, and combining sounds to create their own podcasts and audio projects.
-
Year 5 – Video Production: Planning, filming, and editing short videos while exploring the impact of camera techniques and editing choices.
-
Year 6 – Web Page Creation: Designing and building their own web pages, learning about structure, layout, and responsible use of online content.
It’s wonderful to see pupils developing both their creativity and technical understanding through these engaging projects. Each unit supports problem-solving, teamwork, and digital literacy — essential skills for learning and life in our modern world.
Families interested in exploring the Teach Computing resources can visit the official website at www.teachcomputing.org to find out more about the curriculum and the learning journey across year groups.
Thank you for continuing to support our pupils as they grow into confident, capable, and creative digital learners.
Warm regards,
Kishan Shamji
