Learning in Year 3

It has been a super start to the spring term for Year 3, and we have lots of exciting learning opportunities planned, including a trip to the theatre to see the musical show Wicked.
Y3BP will be going swimming every morning from Monday 19th January, while the rest of year 3 are fine tuning their gymnastics skills at doing teddy bear rolls, forward and backward press ups. Please encourage your child to do lots of physical activity at home, especially at the weekend. It could be playing a ball game, going swimming, going for a walk, doing gymnastics or dancing. This will help them to sleep and also help their brain to get lots of oxygen.
In maths we've been consolidating our addition skills and will start exploring subtraction. You could help your child at home by practising number bonds such as 12 - 4 = for numbers up to 20. If you're preparing food, you could do practical maths "we have 18 mushrooms. We're going to use 11. How many will we have left?"
We've started reading The Twits in English, a funny book with a moral of being kind to others. The children have read and talked about the terrible tricks of the two main characters and enjoyed acting out the roles. We are planning to use this as the basis for our Year 3 performance in Spring 2.
In science we've started learning about friction. The children could explore this more at home by exploring rough and smooth surfaces, and whether the two surfaces move easily past each other or not.In Culture we are continuing to learn about different religions, how they believe the world was created. I'm sure the children would like to hear how you think the world was created and how your belief thinks the world was created. We are also exploring sounds and music in Culture this term. We've started learning about rhythm and pitch. The children have used Chrome Music Lab and Banana Drum to compose their own music.
