🌟 Science Learning Across the School

This term, children across the school have been developing their scientific knowledge through hands-on investigations, discussions, and real-world learning. Here’s a snapshot of what each year group has been exploring.

ðŸ‘ķ EYFS – Exploring Materials

In EYFS, children have been learning about different materials through the story The Three Little Pigs. They explored and compared materials such as straw, wood, and bricks, using key vocabulary to describe their properties. Pupils investigated which materials were strong, weak, hard, or soft and discussed why some materials are better suited for building than others. Next week, children will continue their learning by exploring metal and plastic.

ðŸŒą Year 1 – Emergency and Non-Emergency Situations

Year 1 have been learning about emergency and non-emergency situations. Pupils explored who helps us in an emergency, when to ask for help, and how to stay safe, helping them understand the importance of making sensible choices.

🔌 Year 2 – Electricity

Year 2 have been learning about electricity, including mains and battery power. They explored conductors and insulators and worked practically to make simple circuits, making predictions and learning how electricity is used safely in everyday life.

ðŸ§ē Year 3 – Magnets and Forces

Year 3 investigated magnets and forces, exploring how magnets attract and repel and identifying magnetic and non-magnetic materials. Pupils carried out investigations and learned how forces affect movement.

🚑 Year 4 – Allergies and Anaphylaxis

Year 4 focused on learning about allergies and anaphylaxis. They explored what allergies are, how reactions happen, and why it is important to recognise symptoms and respond quickly to keep people safe.

🌍 Year 5 – Food, Sustainability, and Plants

Year 5 explored where food comes from and the idea of food miles. They carried out experiments on food preservation and planted seeds, observing growth over time and learning about the conditions plants need to grow.

ðŸĶī Year 6 – Fossils and Evolution

Year 6 studied fossilisation and evolution. They learned how fossils are formed and what they tell us about life in the past. Pupils explored how living things change over time and discussed scientific evidence that supports evolution.
