Learning in Year 2

Year 2 has had a busy and exciting week of learning! The biggest excitement in the classrooms has been the arrival of some tiny caterpillars. Each class now has their own caterpillars, and over the next week the children will be carefully observing how they grow and change. We are looking forward to watching the amazing life cycle as the caterpillars form chrysalises and eventually turn into beautiful butterflies.

In English, the children have started reading our new core text, The Lion King. They have really enjoyed exploring the story and characters. This week they focused on using apostrophes for omission, learning how they are used in contractions such as don’t and can’t.

In Maths, Year 2 have been learning about repeated addition as an introduction to multiplication. The children have been practising grouping numbers and adding equal groups together to solve problems.

In Science, our topic has been habitats. The children have been learning about different places animals live and why these environments are suitable for them. This links perfectly with our classroom caterpillars as we think about the habitats living things need to grow and survive.

It has been a wonderful week of curiosity and discovery in Year 2, and we are all very excited to see our caterpillars continue their transformation!
