Year 6 Newsletter for parents

Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to our latest Year 6 newsletter. Now that the SATs pressure is over, our classroom has been buzzing with practical, creative, and collaborative learning. The children have shown immense dedication, and we are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved so far this term. Here is a showcase of the excellent work your children have been doing across the curriculum.
In our communication lessons, the children have been exploring non-verbal communication. They have mastered how to convey powerful emotions and messages using only body language and facial expressions. This work has linked perfectly with rehearsals for the upcoming End of Year Performance. Every child has thoroughly enjoyed prepping, practising lines, and getting into character for the big show.
Our culture and English lessons have transported us back to the 1940s as we dive deep into the history of World War Two. The children have explored the lives of evacuees, rationing, and the impact of the war on ordinary families. Inspired by their learning, the children have worked hard to create and write their very own moving poetry, showcasing their excellent writing skills and empathy.
We have also been bridging technology and mathematics through a highly practical, real-world project. In Technology, students learned the benefits of spreadsheets, focusing on data entry and the importance of formatting. They are currently building their own functional spreadsheet models to plan and budget for their End of Year Party. This linked seamlessly with our mathematics focus on statistics, where students are currently creating and analysing graphs.
Finally, we celebrated the rich linguistic diversity of our Year 6 classroom by launching a unique language project. Students examined the similarities and differences between the various spoken and written languages represented in our class. Working together, they used these insights to invent their very own unique language, creating their own vocabulary and rules.
Thank you for your continued support during this busy and exciting final term.
Warm regards,
Mr Shamji
