Learning in Year 4

It has been an action-packed few weeks in Year 4, filled with exciting discoveries, thoughtful discussions, and creative ways to stay cool in the summer heat.
In English, we have been diving into the wonderful world of Slime by David Walliams. Inspired by the book, we put on our compliance hats to write clear instructions using chronological order and time connectives. We also held respectful classroom debates, passionately arguing who should rule the Isle of Mulch.
Our mathematicians have been working hard on coordinate grids. We mastered plotting points and creating various polygons in the first quadrant. Now, we are moving on to the geometry of angles, learning how to classify them as acute, obtuse, and right angles. We also continue to sharpen our daily maths fluency skills.
In our culture lessons, we travelled back in time to explore how different groups of people impacted Britain. We looked closely at the Romans and the Anglo-Saxons, and even investigated where the English language comes from, with a special focus on ancient Celtic languages.
Science has been incredibly practical and vital. We learned all about the human heart, focusing on heart attacks, identifying key symptoms, and understanding exactly what to do in an emergency. The children practiced exactly what to say when calling 999 to help save a life.
Alongside our fine motor skills practice, this week has been all about pacing ourselves in the warm weather. We have been keeping as cool as possible in the classroom by engaging in lots of detailed drawing and calming, creative activities. We are looking forward to our trip next Tuesday, and for what the last few weeks have in store for us!
