Learning in Year 1
The class has had a busy week of fun and learning. We have been continuing to read our core text 'Real Superheroes', and have been practising our 'hold the sentence' method to help us with our writing. The children enjoyed writing sentences about what they would like to be when they are older... there were definitely some interesting career choices! The progress has been incredible to see in such a short amount of time, and I am extremely proud of how well the class has adapted to the jump from Reception to Year 1. Thank you for all your continued support towards reading with your child at home.
In Maths, we have been learning about greater than, less than and equal to. The children were introduced to the very greedy Alligator, who likes to eat the plate that has the most! The children learnt to compare numbers and choose the correct symbol to show which number was greater, less or equal to them and enjoyed being hands-on and exploring this through the use of balance scales.
In Science, we learnt all about medicine and the importance of keeping safe around medicine. I have asked the children to remind parents to store the medicine safely and out of reach... they will be checking! During our Emotional Health lessons, the children practised calling 999 in the event of an emergency. They practised choosing the correct emergency service, depending on the situation. I have asked the children to begin to learn their home address. Your support with this would be greatly appreciated.
