Chinese New Year - Family Week
As part of the school's Mandarin programme, children and parents celebrated the Year of the Rooster
At Kensington Primary this week, children celebrated the Chinese 'Year of the Rooster' alongside their parents. Children enjoyed learning traditional Chinese painting techniques, made lucky red envelopes, and improved their chopstick skills. On Friday they all enjoyed a wonderful assembly with demonstrations of Chinese music, dancing, and martial arts.
Throughout the week, parents were invited into the school to learn alongside their children. They took part in a variety of workshops and it was great to hear their feedback. One parent commented, 'Had lots of fun. Really enjoyed myself. Looking forward to more activities like this.'
We also found out this week that 62% of our Y6 children reached the expected standard in their Mandarin reading and writing exam. This test is aimed at children who have been learning Mandarin throughout their time at primary school - our children have only been learning it for 1 year so this is an incredible achievement!
