In Kensington we believe in giving children the opportunity to express their creativity throughout their learning, whether it be through their writing, music or art.
We believe that art should be a child-led process, where children are allowed to share and express their ideas using a range of mediums and learning and practising a range of practical skills along the way. These skills are then developed and expanded upon as they progress throughthe school.
Cross-curricular learning is at the centre of our approach, allowing children the chance to explore other times in history, different cultures and ways of life through studying, researching and creating a range of art pieces.
Within lessons, children also develop an understanding of materials, mediums, art styles, researching, producing, developing, innovating and evaluating their own and others work.
We follow the National Curriculum, which includes art, as a compulsory subject at Key Stages 1 and 2.
We hope that by giving children the chance to create and express themselves, they are able to expand their horizons and carry that creativity into other areas of their lives.
