Kensington Primary School

Local Advisory Board

Kensington Primary School has an active Local Advisory Board (LAB). We act as “a critical friend” to the school, providing strategic governance to ensure that all children receive the best possible education. The LAB meets as a whole group each term and delegates its business to a range of committees, where appropriate.

What do we do?

The LAB has an important part to play in raising school standards through its three key roles:

  • Setting strategic direction
  • Ensuring accountability
  • Monitoring and evaluating school performance

We have responsibility together with the leadership team for agreeing the policies for the general running of the school. Our role is crucial:

  • We fulfil statutory duties to ensure that the school is a safe, healthy and an inclusive environment
  • We provide support and challenge to the leadership team of the school on all issues that affect the learning and welfare of our pupils

The LAB is drawn from the staff of the school, the Local Education Authority, parents and the wider community that our school serves. The usual term of office is four years but many members of the LAB stand for re-election and serve more than one term.

Minutes of LAB meetings are available on request from the office. If you would like to contact the LAB then please e-mail

I am currently retired with 28 years experience working in the public sector working with the Metropolitan Police Service. I was part of the Senior Management team within the IT department. During my time at the MPS I have acquired a vast range of skills including IT, Management, Human Resources and Finance. I am able to deal with people of all levels and backgrounds. Whilst working I have also completed several further education courses which include a diploma in IT and Management and higher level certificates in HR.

I also do voluntary work for a local charity and I am currently the assistant secretary having previously worked as the chair and treasurer. I have good interpersonal skills and able to deal with sensitive issues.

Over the last 12 months I have worked as a parent governor being actively involved during term time and at meetings. I believe I have the requisite skills for this role

Hannah Rizki

  23/06/2021 - 22/06/2025   Co-opted Governor Held

With a MSc in stochastics modelling and a BSc in maths and statistics Hannah is currently head of coffee research at a commodities trade house – ED&F Man, head quartered in London, as well as being a mentor for young women in the workplace.

Noting the widespread impact the pandemic has had on children and their families I was inspired by the work that Kensington Primary School staff were undertaking to support their students which included providing basic essentials including food parcels as well as extra academic support to vulnerable children and their families. Subsequently, I helped raise money for a vulnerable family fund to help continue the work longer term.

“I’m delighted to be a part of Kensington Primary School and look forward to taking on my responsibilities.”

Ruqayya Suleman

Parent Governor 06/11/2023 -05/11/2027
As a dedicated mother of four, I have always been deeply committed to cultivating an educational environment that nurtures a genuine passion for learning and empowers children in every facet of life. This commitment inspired my choice to enrol my own children at Kensington Primary School, a place where 'everyone loves to be.'
My career in NHS Public Health has afforded me invaluable insights into the healthcare challenges that individuals in East London encounter. It underscores my unwavering dedication to rewarding, meaningful work and my passion for empowering others. I endeavour to work on building effective relationships through inspiring and supporting the staff, children and the wider community to adopt and live the values and ethos of the school.

Nazia Umarjee

I also have a good relationship with staff at Kensington as well as the community.

Amardeep Panesar

Co-opted Governor 17/10/2023 - 16/10/2027

The past few years of my teaching career have provided me with a high level of professional experience gained through a variety of practical and developmental roles, mainly achieved through education and sport.  I believe in a mature, well-paced and constructive teaching approach where relationships between staff, students and parents are crucial in order to achieve the right level of response from the student.  I am looking to make a continued significant contribution to children's lives, as a Headteacher and have developed a vast amount through my career, which began in 2000 in the London Borough of Newham.  As an ex-pupil of Kensington Primary School I am very passionate to give back to the community and school that gave me the right foundation and allowed me to achieve so many great things through education and sport!
